Summary: Power of Flowers
Main Street Weddings kicked of their brand new semester of Bridal University on February 4th.
With plenty of eager brides, friends, and family members in attendance, The Main Street showroom was definitely a full house! The energetic audience listened as wedding florist Shelley Campbell made her presentation titled "The Power of Flowers". Shelley engaged the crowd by first pointing out that when planning out the flower concept for a wedding, she starts with the bride's bouquet. She emphasized the importance of the bride being happy with her bouquet. "She is the most important person that day!" Campbell stated.

Shelley next steered the discussion toward bridesmaids' bouquets. As the audience members shared their planned color schemes, Shelley brainstormed ideas for each and every bride. She meticulously explained how a color wheel works and showed brides how they could choose either a similar color in a different intensity (light blue flowers with navy dresses) or contrasting colors (orange flowers with purple dresses). Several of the brides in attendance jotted down the color ideas as Shelley explained.

Next, Shelley explained what elements to consider when selecting flowers. She included the following ideas:
Time of year: Be aware of what flowers are in season, as this could impact costs and availability.
Location: Not every look is appropriate for every location. A rustic vineyard should be adorned differently than a country club ballroom.
Color schemes: Ask you florist for ideas if you are more concerned with colors and tones than exact flowers.
Favorite flowers: Are there flowers that are sentimental to you (or your family) personally? Incorporate them!
Mood: Will your wedding be on a beach? Will it be an evening candle-lit affair?
Personal style: Is your wedding going for a casual country vibe? A modern, clean sophistication?
Budget: Be honest about you want to spend. The average bride uses 5%-10% of the wedding budget for flowers.
Throughout this portion of her informative presentation, Shelley used a PowerPoint presentation to show lots of examples and ideas to the audience members.
Shelley concluded her presentation by again emphasizing to always start with the bride's bouquet. Shelley also mentioned that brides should define their wedding visions and bring pictures, swatches, and whatever could help the florist to understand the look that they desire.
Shelley then answered specific questions, gifted the guests with complimentary bouquets, and enjoyed a light lunch (courtesy of Legends Catering) and cupcakes (courtesy of Cakes by Happy Eatery).
A wonderful time was had by all. If you missed out on this session of Bridal University, you can still register for future sessions!
